On April 30, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with reporters after talks with Argentine Foreign Minister Montino in Beijing.

Wang Yi stated that in 2008, Ms. Foreign Minister was selected as a torchbearer for the Beijing Olympics, leaving Argentina's mark on the success of the Olympics. The torch of friendship between the peoples of China and Arab countries should also be passed on from generation to generation. We hope and believe that Ms. Foreign Minister will lift the torch of friendship between the two peoples and make new contributions to jointly opening up a bright future for China Arab relations.

Wang Yi said that we just held in-depth talks and reached the most important consensus that no matter what changes occur in the domestic and international situation, the direction of promoting friendship between the two sides should not change, and efforts to deepen cooperation need to be strengthened. Because this is the common expectation of the two peoples and in line with the fundamental long-term interests of both countries.

Wang Yi pointed out that although China and Arab countries are far apart, since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, the relationship between the two countries has achieved a leapfrog development from a cooperative partner, a strategic partner to a comprehensive strategic partner. China never interferes in the internal affairs of other countries. We respect the choice of the Argentine people and wish Argentina success in its reforms. I believe that the Argentine people will overcome difficulties and explore a successful development path that suits their own national conditions.

Wang Yi stated that looking ahead, China and Arab countries must adhere to the path of mutual support and win-win cooperation.

Firstly, we need to strengthen mutual trust. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Arab countries. We need to constantly enrich its connotation and pay attention to the comprehensiveness, strategy, and stability of China Arab relations.  

The second is to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Both China and Arab countries are in an important stage of development, committed to realizing the people's aspirations for a better life. The two countries have highly complementary economic structures and are important development opportunities for each other. We should continue to respect each other and treat each other as equals, follow the laws of the market, strive for mutual benefit and win-win results, continue to promote high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", strengthen the docking of development strategies, share development dividends, and bring tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Thirdly, we must adhere to independence and self-reliance. The cooperation between China and Arab countries is in line with the interests of both parties, and is a mutual assistance between equal partners. It is neither targeted at any third party nor subject to interference from any third party. We must uphold an independent foreign policy, eliminate external interference and noise, and support each other in accelerating development and revitalization.

Fourthly, we must adhere to unity and cooperation. Continue to engage in deeper exchanges within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the G20, and the World Trade Organization, promote overall cooperation between China and Latin America, and take practical actions to advance solidarity and cooperation in the 'Global South'.

Wang Yi said that in the past three days, the foreign ministers of Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina have visited China successively, and China's strategic communication with Latin American and Caribbean countries has been further strengthened. Both China and Latin America are important emerging economies and staunch defenders of the international multilateral system, as well as active builders of world peace and prosperity. Faced with the century long changes, we bear a shared historical responsibility and will play a greater historical role. China is willing to closely communicate and cooperate with Latin America to practice true multilateralism, jointly advocate for an equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization, promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, and work together to build a better world.
